At the Band Meeting on 21st April it was agreed to trial a 7.15pm start, which will enable us to have a 10 minute break at about 8.15pm, when we can all enjoy a hot or cold drink . We will set up a rota of volunteers to prepare tea/coffee/juice at a cost of 50p. Band Members are requested, where possible, to assist with getting rehearsal room ready, cleared up after rehearsal and kitchen clear-up at end of band practice.
It was also agreed that in order to reduce disruption during rehearsals, talking to be kept to a bare minimum, but any music queries etc to be directed to either the section leader or to the conductor.
July 2009
We are pleased to announce that we have appointed a new conductor ,Mr. Christopher Barnes. Chris has been with us since February 9th 2009 and is doing a really great job.
Since taking over as our Musical Director he has taken us us to the Rhyl Festival Brass Band Entertainments Contest at the Rhyl Pavilion Theater on Sunday the 28th June.
Deeside Silver Band members were thrilled to win the first prize in the Fourth Section. Chris wore a really cool pirates outfit while he conducted us through "Pirates of the Carribean". Well done ! A special thank you to our guest players Tony, Joan and Peter, who did a spectacular job on kit!
It was a really good day out too, some of us stayed on to watch the other band sections playing and an extraordinary display of talent was exhibited!.
The entertainments contest has been brought back after a few years of absence and I believe the event was such a success thats it's going to be run again next year.
The Band members would like to say a big thank you to Bernie who conducted us successfully through to January 2009, when he decided to go back to teaching and conducting Northop Junior Band. Good Luck Bernie - we will keep in touch!
